intermittent no/long time to start, an audible whine, some nursing techniques include cycling key of and on to build pressure before trying to start and in the very last stages of failure a good kick to the bottom of tank can get you a couple more starts.fuel pump failures skyrocket in cold weather.

Other symptoms include bogging down in the feel, low throttle response, lack of power under loading conditions such as going up hill, hard starts regardless of temp, and misfires due to lean fuel mix.

The air amount remains the same while the flow rate drops due to low output of the fuel pump thus causing a misfire across all / multiple cylinders.
