K&N FIPK Install Complete
I took out my Airaid intake, and installed a K&N FIPK. I like it a little better then the Airaid.
Performance is the same as far as I can tell, but the sound is better with the K&N.
The Airaid made a lot of sucking sounds out of the filter. K&N looks better too I think.
K&N FIPK Gen II 57-1511-2
Price: $220.
Install: about 1 hour.

make sure you dont over torque the TB hat bolt, it'll crack. It should be snugg.
did you ever put the bigger filter on from the air raid setup? If not, take notice of the HP & torque feel before you do it and see the difference. if you have an hills near by, it can act as a load for evaluation purposes.

I'm waiting to try the bigger filter until I get a feel for the one it came with. Then i'll switch them to see if there is a difference.
TB hat. where it mounts to the TB, if you over torque it, it can crack and you'll have a leak. if left un-attended it can eventually brake because of the strong vacuum draw (mine did).
I may loosen it up just a tad then. I think I tightened it pretty good because the bolt was still turning fairly easy. I'll back it off and snug it up.
Thanks.
Thanks.
yup, same thing I did the 1st time around. there is nothing for the TB hat to snug up against. they should make the bolt a tad bit longer so it'll bottom out, then torque it down without stressing the TB hat.
where did u find it for 220? around here its like 350-400 canadian tho maybe its us for u

I got it on eBay. And yes, it was brand new, not used. I have been watching eBay for some time waiting for one to pop up at a good price. I finally found a "buy it now" for around $210. After shipping, it was $220.
Hey Silver, How ya doing? my hubby wants to put them filters on our rams but we've not a clue about them as yet, only that they are the best! When looking for the K&L what can you tell me to go by, do I look just like I would for any other parts? I'm really dumb when it comes to this stuff... but I'm learning.
Hey one more thing I finially got my fog lights and Nerf bars and got them put on.....lol

I wouldn't necessarily say they are the best. I had an Airaid intake first, and the performance was as good as my K&N, it just sounded different and it didn't have a heat shield (until I made my own). I like the K&N better because it comes with a real nice heat shield, and it also puts the filter right up in the front where cold air coming in next to the radiator support can get to it (instead of directly above the exhaust manifold). Overall. I think the K&N looks better then most others. I took my Ram into the dealer when I had my Airaid and my custom made heat shield. They gave me some weird looks over it. Made me nervous since I am still under warranty. I wouldn't want them to use that as an excuse to deny me warranty work.
If you guys decide you want one, get the K&N FIPK Gen II, part number 57-1511-2. I think you can also get part number 57-1511-1, but I think that is the one that was not as thick, so it tended to crack easier. I found the best prices by far on eBay. Places like 4 Wheel Parts, and other pickup parts stores sell them for over $300. Also, you can save a lot of money by buying the cheap intakes that are for sale on eBay. I've heard they do allright, and you could even custom build a heat shield for it.
You should look into getting a Fastman TB. I think for the money, it is a better upgrade then a cold air intake.
Good Luck.
