Default best performance upgrades 5.9l

this is a post similar to the one posted by zuldera7 on the 18th of dec. except i want to know about a 99 5.9L. is there a way to block off the egr and is that a good idea. 2. what does a 180 stat really do and how does it increase power? 3. i've got a cat back flowmaster, would i benefit from adding an exhaust cutout? 4. anything else you can think of for performance, i've already got the chip and cai, and exhaust as i already mentioned. thank you

You will get better results in the 2nd gen section, I do know alot myself since I am a 5.9 guy with an 02, but the guys over in the 2nd gen section can help you a lot more than just me. But the 180 degree stat does work, it makes the engine run cooler, and flowmaster is kind of shunned away by alot of 3rd gen guys, but I know a lot of the 5.9 fellas like it still. Someone else can answer about the egr for you.

greetings!

you'll find alot about performance in the 2nd gen section.. I would suggest doing a search for the following items.

Harland Sharp 1.7 Roller Rockers-
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...r-rockers.html
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-question.html
http://southeastperformance.com/
52mm Fastman TB-
http://www.thefastman.com/Throttlebodies5x.asp

Hughes Plenum fix
http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...p?partid=22220

Kegger Mod-

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-worth-it.html

High flow Cat

I'm sure there are others as well.... first make sure you get a good tune-up before pouring money into these mods.. and an alignment... and don't say I had one a year ago... it doesn't count.. there is plenty of info on this site.. but do a search first for what ever item you're looking at... because trust me.. you're not the first to do something.. anyways.. welcome to DF and hope this site can help you like it did me!

i eliminated my EGR when i did my plenum. i had a plate that i got off from the manifold my boss gave me, that covers the egr valve port.

as for the pipe, i cut it at both ends, and had bolts welded in to prevent leaks, and it runs great. i get a CEL every like 100 miles, but when i turn it off then on, its gone.

performance upgrades... this is wht i have.

1. rebuilt beffed up tranny
2. 4.10 gears front and rear.
3. MSD 8.5mm wires,Mopar champion copper plugs. Accel coil and cap/rotor
4.Port and Polished Modded intake manifold.
5. Cleaned fuel injectors.
6. Hughes plenum plate/intake gaskets
7. Straight-piped.
8. EGR delete

the truck runs excellent, plenty of power, but im still not done...im doing MUCH more

i get about 13-14 mpgs city, and about 16-18 highway. and shes got 196K

I agree with Ram07 that you should not have an egr on a 99 and have you looked into some longtube headers, how bout some gears what size tires you runnin, also how long have you had the cat and maybe look into high flow cat or get rid of it if you can.

like i said above i get a CEL about every 100-200 miles, but when i shut it off and turn it on the CEL is gone.
