Default '01 V10 Shifting Problem

Hey Everyone. I have a 2001 2500 with a V-10 it doesn't want to shift out of 1st gear. I have to wind it up real tight and let off the gas and then it will shift into 2nd or 3rd. It doesn't slip but if I am under 35 mph and on an incline it will shift down to 1st gear. Can someone tell if they know how to fix this.

Thanks So Much

Thanks, I just called the parts store and they have a shift solenoid but it doesn't say if it is first gear, it is just listed as a shift solenoid.

I changed out the shift solenoid and that still didn't fix it, I don't think it is the throttle cable, could it be the throttle position sensor?

i had the same problem with my 01 v10 and now with my 99 2500 360 and your best bet is to get the tranny rebuilt!! because it could be your torque converter, valve body, clutch paks. im on my 2nd rebuild for the v10 and the 1st for the 360!! when u drop the pan if there is a lot of gunk in the bottom or on the magnet i hate to say this but u need a rebuild!!

The pan and magnet were clean, I was surprised by this. I am thinking of putting one of those upgraded transmissions in from 4 wheel drive parts. It has it doesn't slip and has plenty of power. Then again I may just replace the valve body but I should have replaced the pressure solenoid while I was in there but I didn't, I may do that this weekend.

Hey everyone thanks you for all of the help. I fixed it. As it turns out it was the throttle valve cable, I feel like an idiot but at least I have a new shift solenoid and new pressure solenoid and nice clean fluid. Oddly though, since changing the shift solenoid when at 80 mph I noticed it dropped my rpms by about 200 from 2200 down to about 2000 rpms. Anyway still love my V10.
