35's on stock ram
brakes ...probably a whole 'nother subject but def. interelated.
Brakes have the same issues...you can get the minimum at a cheap price, or you can spend a bit more and significantly improve your performance. Or you can go whole hog.
Never understood why parts stores offer different price ranges of brakes, or why people buy brakes based on cost.

Silver and dsertdog are both correct. I went for 30" tires up to 33" I hit od at 55mph not 45 like I should. My truck has not low end. Going up hills I have to lock it out of od and get a good rolling start on the hill.
After lifting my truck and looking at all the mods I need to do to get it back where is should be is a lot of money. Hell I'm looking at 2k for 4.56 installed and a rear locker.
If you plan to wheel this truck get the dick cepek long rams to let your truck flex. If you are going for looks stick with a 3" lift and 33" tires. They fit very nice under my truck. If you want to make this a true off road truck look at dana 60 swap front and rear to hold up them big tires and not snap axles.
Like they said before.
33" tires = a leveling kit/3" lift.
35" tires = a 5" suspesnion lift.
Gear size.
33" tire 3.92 or 4.10 (If you tow you better get 4.10's!!!!)
35" tires 4.56
38" 4.88

Thanks Silver, I'd done one write up like yours on another forum today, didn't feel like doing it again.
I hadn't really thought of hiem joints, when I do, its usually on off road only/competition rigs. Hate to confuse newbies.

ok so ill go agaisnt every one... my ram before the one i have now had 33's on it with no lift.. stock 97 1500...i put a 3" body lift on it and the tires looked small.. right now i have a 2" coil spacer lift and 1.5" block with like 265s or 31s... look super small... im getting 35s soon if i keep the truck... id would say you will be fine with a 2" lift.... flame on.
You will get flamed but your answer is the most economically smart thing to do when your dealing with a $4000 retail value truck... But if your going to go ahead and waist your time and plan on keeping the truck then you might as well do it right. But if this truck is your first and will only have it a couple of years before your front end and tranny are going to go bad then you should find the cheapest (while keeping it somewhat safe) of lifting your truck.
You will have trouble fitting 35s with basically a leveling kit (your 2 inch spacer). Major cutting but I know someone who has put 38's on just a 3 inch body lift with a buttload of cutting. Couldn't flex worth anything, hit a speed bump and he rubbed. It was for kicks and giggles though as he put a 5 inch lift on it a week later.
I would recommend going through topgunz on ebay. they have cheap 3 inch budget lifts that are safe enough for around 200 bucks.

You are certainly correct. It is absolutly "economically smarter" to do that, provided that in the end, you don't mind that your truck performs worse, handles worse, gets worse fuel economy, is less safe, and is guaranteed not to last as long. But hey, you have to make some sacrifices when making economically smart decisions, right? For people who take this approach, maybe sitting around counting their saved money helps them forget how horrible their trucks have become because they cut corners and tried to do it half-assed and on the cheap. Come to think of it, an even cheaper way is to just go drive your truck into a tree. That will also make your truck worse, but you don't have to invest in a budget lift to do it. Talk about economically smart.
Personally, I try to only do modifications to my truck that actually make it better then it was before. Might cost more, but hey, to each his own I guess.

So. . . i'm looking to do something similiar to what this guy is talking about. I'm looking for a 3in lift might go with the 3in lift inc. coils from topgunz and am hoping to run 33's. The other option is just a 2 or 2.5 in leveling kit and running 33's. If i do either of these will i have to be re-geared?
Yay I win
.
Just get the 2 inch leveling kit and you will be able to run 33's depending on how wide they are and how wide your wheel is. You will probly rub a little but nothing drastic. If your going to be trying to flex a little then look into topgunz 3 inch budget lift which will include blocks or add a leaf to lift the rear also. Once again if you plan on doing what the people do on the speed channel rock climbing this kit isn't going to work but if you just wanna tuck some bigger tires and save the bank then go the topgunz route.
Regearing may be needed as dodge15004x45.9 so nicely posted earlier. But, if you only drive interstate then I might not recommend regearing but you may be a little more sluggish on takeoffs. It won't be a horrible difference but I'm sure you will be able to tell. Just drive around with your 33's and if you can't stand the lack of low end and you drive in town all time then your better off regearing.
