Default burns 3 quarts in 250 miles

I have a 1999 witha 360 and its burning about 3 quarts in about 250 miles.I read on here about the plenum so im gonna go ahead and get that changed when the part store opens monday. But i was wondering if there is anyway to check for the piston rings without puling the motor apart?

thats not spectacular, but not too bad either for a 10 year old truck. The plenum probably is a contributing factor, but I have never heard of a truck burning that much oil that quickly. Are we sure there are no leaks?

i'd call 3 qts in 250 miles a SPECTACULAR leak. order the hughes kit on monday and it'll be there by thursday or friday.

+1 on compression test to check your rings, but i'd think you'd have a LOT of blue smoke with a leak that bad.

another problem that can burn a lot of oil is the rubber valve seals. they tend to smoke more at low rpm and and less at higher rpm.

assuming your not leaking this oil out on the ground, after you get it fixed - check your plugs, 02 sensors, and catalytic converter. they might be shot.

Burning 1 quart of oil ever 85 miles is ALOT! I bet you get terrible MPG too. The plenum might be a little of the problem but I doubt its all of it. Check for leaks +1

Sorry. I probably should have been more specific. I was talking about his compression.
