What do you plan on building? Metal ain't cheap and many times its better just saving the time and buying it... I know how to weld and I don't want to make anything for my truck...

A good tube light bar will run you about $2-500. You could buy all the materials you need for under 100.

All the tube I needed for my tire carrier was $40.
