Default Cold Weather and MPG???

Hi Guys,

My '97 Ram normally gets 16 or so MPG. If I'm really easy on the pedal and driving only highway she may 18+.

It's been incredibly cold here in Colorado this past month..... and I've noticed of the last couple of fillups I getting slightly better than 13 MPG........

Sooooooo here is my question...... Can cold weather affect MPG??... Thanks...... Jason......

Its the blend of gas they use and warm up time. Its takes long to get your truck up to running temp.

You could always use a grille cover, I use one and it helps my truck warm up a hell of a lot faster but I don't know if that would help your mpg issue.

It's not uncommon for me to get between 10-12 mpg once the temps start dropping here in WI.

^A grille cover could help. I know that big diesel trucks get worse gas mileage in the cold until the some of the grille is covered. I won't go to deep into the science of it, but cold fuel and/or a cold engine = less complete combustion and therefore, poor fuel economy.

You live in Texas. Is there that much temperature fluxuation between summer in winter there? Anyways 12 MPG is horrible for a 2WD. Hope since you fixed your plenum that it will get better!

I sure hope so. Its about 35 right now. In the summer time it gets into the 100+ temps.

Dont mean to Hi-jack the thread, but would a plenum like this cause 4-5 mpg loss?
