i have an 01 dodge ram 1500 sport 5.9 motor, my truck started to eat oil, no smoke out of the pipe or leaks anywhere, but im 1.5 quarts down, gas milege is horrible, and between 2000 and 3000 rpms sounds like some rattle sound maybe valves not sure but the noise is only on hard acceleration and on low gears, when im accelerating calmly no knock, what can it be? and where should i start to look? can it be plenum gasket and can that cause for valves to knock?

plenum could be the culprit...although i dont know if it could cause a knock...is it pinging, or knocking?

 

its not really a knock more like rattle just sounds like rrrrrrrr until it shifts and the rpm drop and the noise goes away

 

mine just started doin the samething but not sure why its doing it. im goin to try the seafom and see how that works out for it.

 

Well, if it does this in a certain gear then it's gonna be a tranny problem.

 

the noise is deff coming from the motor but i cant figure out whats making noise, does anyone know if the plenum gasket is no good that causes a vacum leack if im correct, can that cause the valves to make a rattle noise?

 

the pcv valve can make a knocking sound

 

its deff not the trans

 

I have the same sound and had a mechanic take it out and its the plenum.

 

ok im going to check my plenum gasket, and the plenum can cause drastic power loss and less mpg?
