That's all you will find. Dual pistons didn't come out until 2000 and they won't retrofit. The earlier 2500 calipers have larger single pistons and work better than stock 1500 calipers.

 

That's what I thought. I guess he's saying that he upgraded to a 2500 single piston caliper. I just find it odd how upgrading to that piston would make that much of a difference. The 1500 calipers had a 2.95 inch bore (75mm) and the 2500 had a 3.1 (79mm) inch bore. The 1 ton 4x4's with the dana front axle had 3.385 inch bore calipers (86mm). Maybe if those can be directly bolted on they'd work better.

 

Yea the 2500 is a single piston its bigger like you stated and the pads are bigger, it does make a difference, and I think it was worth the money spent.

is this 2500 caliper mod only work on 2wd? or can a 4x4 1500 accept a 2500 4x4 caliper? also am I understanding correctly that the duel pistons cannot be retrofitted even if you swap spindles/knuckles?

 

Swap in a new master cylinder from a 1997 or newer. Preferabilly from a 2000-2001 but you would also have to change out the booster. 2000-01 trucks had a compact booster and master cylinder. The 1997-1999 master cylinder has a larger bore than the earlier counterparts.

Swap of 2000-01 front brakes would require rotors, calipers, caliper mounts, steering knuckles, wheel bearing/hubs, and brake hoses from a 2000-01 truck. I am not sure, but you might have to also get ball joints from a 2000-01 truck. I am considering this swap in the future.

 

I read on another forum about doing it and it was done on a 4x4 and all the part numbers are the same

 

Thanks redheadhunter21! so I think my question has been answered but I just want to verify 'cause I am seriously going to do this on Saturday. I have a 1997 1500 4x4 w/5.9. I am going to go to autozone and buy some calipers for a 1997 2500 4x4 w/5.9 and these calipers will bolt right up and be an improvement, right? same rotors, maybe different pads but that's it? Thanks!

 

You will need new pads that match the bigger calipers the part numbers for the 2500 truck calipers that I used from autozone are C556 and C557
