I've had problems with PCV's from autoparts stores making bad rattling sounds right out of the box. I've had to resort to only buying them from the dealership. The Mopar ones never rattle.

my new advance pcv has an annoying rattle too, but when it plugs up it makes a whistling noise.
it is supposed to close at idle and open up when you get on the gas. so you will hear the rattle if you tap the gas and as soon as the idle drops down to 600 then it'll shut up.

the transmission more than likely isn't slipping. it is either your tps going bad or you're getting cross talk in the spark plug wires. a wire re-route should be done, along with a thorough inspection of the spark plug wires or just replacing them. i replaced a couple throttle position sensors and it didn't fix my surge. then when i got new plug wires and did the re-route i saw that my #8 wire had a crack in it that was letting the spark bleed out onto the #6 wire and that is what was causing the 300 rpm surge at highway speeds.

Damn, you guys are awesome! I'll have to look into that. Where can I find the TPS is it an easy swap/cheap? I can do the wires no problem. The truck only has 80,000 miles... but then again it's 13 years old now... didn't think the trans would go that early mileagewise until I came across all the complaints But I'll have to check out the spark asap thanks !

Nice! Mine went out at about 35k. Good thing I had a warrantee at the time. I have just over 100k now, and still going good.
