Default Fuel Mileage 8-10 MPG?!?! Help!

My 01 Ram with the 5.2L is getting horrible mileage. I know 12 to 14 MPGs is the norm, at least thats what my friends have said who also drive Rams. I topped off my tank today, I drove 125 miles since the last time I topped off and it took 15 gallons! Thats 8.3 MPGs! In the last 3 months I've replaced the spark plugs, wires, coil, distributor cap and rotor, and the air filter. I keep my tires (which are new, 90% tread) at the recommended PSI. The odometer is at 94k. Also I drive very conservatively, the truck shifts around 2000 to 2500 RPMs. Any ideas? Could it be a clogged Cat? Im about ready to sell the truck. 8 MPGs? I may as well be driving a school bus.

I get about 9.But i have a full size with 4x4.You might want to sell it I dont think anything will help you get that much better.Maybe a mile or 2.If you have a 2wd truck something may be wrong. It could be alot of things a cloged cat or a leaking injector.

ditto....this same question comes up every other day and its usually the gasket....could be worn rings or bad o2 sensor and codes? Is your od working in your tranny? you dont have larger tires than say 33" on it do you? btw you should read before you post there already another active thread about the exact same thing on the top page...

I do nothing but city driving in Las Vegas. My truck hasn't seen 60mph since I came home from the 500.

I get about 10.5mpg (using math not on board computer...seems to be off by .5) and I did the same thing with recent....plugs, cap and rotor, added K&N filter, tranny/oil change. I actually LOST mpg because before I did all that, I was getting about 12- 12.5...seemed to have happened after the plugs/cap change.

Was it running rough? Or did you just want to see if it would get better mpg?
