97 5.2 -Stalls during Deceleration and Idle
This just happened less than 2 hours ago, while exiting the freeway and I just about wrecked my truck due to the engine dieing when I slowed down to exit. Never had this happen before, managed to get the truck to the bottom of the ramp, put it in neutral and it started, seemed fine until I stopped at the next light and it died again. There wasn't any engine light or any other signs that there was a problem - other than I had to keep one foot on the gas and the other on the brake to keep it running at the light.
Got it home, let it sit for a while to cool off and checked it for a loose coil wire ect..., didn't fine any, so I started it and it appeared to be fine, at idle it maintain proper idle, reached operating temp (200) per the gage and no indication that there was a problem. I took the wife out for dinner and it started again.
Anyone have an idea as to what is going on?

No engine light - as for the codes, I'll have to check them manually as I don't have a reader. Will do after dinner

Distributer cap, plugs, wires were done less tha 3K/5 months ago, and fuel filter was about 10 months ago.
Truck has 236K on it and is driven daily, I keep it regulary serviced and tuned up.
That I why I sumped with the way it is behaving.
This summer, the CAT was replaced and changed both O2 sensors, full tune up and it was running strong, better than it has in the past - drove it down to FL from Michigan to do a 6 wk job down there and avg 18 MPG.

Checked for codes but none show up? Checked more than once just to be sure - It seems problem does occurs after engine temp reaches 180 and computer goes into the Closed Loop Cycle. Dealership book describes how the different cycles work and where the computer (PCM) receives it signals from, one common item is the Engine Coolant Temp sensor. Since this is the low cost item on the list, I just might replace that item and then work my way up to the Idle air control (IAC) motor and TPS. to me this might be the best place to start cause it's fine until I reach temp and the PCM uses the temp switch to tell the injectors and timing where to be.
As for the coil wire, I'll check that out as soon as I find my ignition plies, that way I won't get fried like the other gent described -felt like a heart attack when it lit him up
