Default 3.9 to 318 swap ditching the efi going for a carb

hey guys im new to the fourm but have been snooping around for some time now....i own a 98 ram 3.9 5 speed 2wd...the motor has over 300xxxkm on it and its smoking/knocking/and loosing power...time for a swap...i have a 94ram 318 auto with a good motor ..the rest is junk

from what i understand (correct me if im wrong) the 3.9 fly wheel should work on the 318

and the computer would need to be flashed if i were to go for the efi

and i could use my wiring harness i would just have to run 2 more wires for the extra injecters

is there any other susprises that i may encounter??

another option was to pull the throtle body off and buy or make an adapter plate so i could just plunk a carb on there and bolt it in and go.....its more tempting just to do that for the time savings and simplisity...does anyone knowif it willwork right like this???i understand the pros and cons of efi and carbs so i hope this wont turn into a carb vs efi post...lol....thanks

i dont know much bout the computer, or carb. but as far as the motor workin with the 5spd (nv3500 transmission) it will. they offered the 5.2 with the nv3500 option, though they are rearish. i think it should be a simple swap. but dont hold it against me

the way to go if you want to go carb, is get a hughes airgap intake, they made two, one carb specific and one EFI specific (different mounting flange for the TB and set up for injectors) the downfall is its expensive at about 600 dollars, but a much better design than the keg intake

the computer would be the real PITA, not sure how it would react to no signal from the injection system

The original carb Edelbrock intake is reasonably priced, at $300.

My advice would be to get a harness from a V8 truck.

It is designed for a magnum. It should fit as far as I know.

but your tps sends signal to your pcm for shifting, if you go with a carb you wont have the tps. Unless you go with a 518 trans and the govonor synoid is in the tail section and not the valve body. Then it gets into another mess. If you want a carb. You will be better off gutting the entire wiring/dont use any of it and use and old 80's or make your own like guys do for muscle cars.
