local dodge dealership lied again
well i have had no heat and they stated my water pump is shot, i bought a water pump from a mopar website then they stated they wont put it in since i didn't buy directly from the dealership. So i have the local shop which specializes in drag racing install the pump for me. Well i still have no heat so maybe heater core is what im thinking.
a bad water pump is one that either leaks, or has a bad bearing, or has some rare impeller failure or crack. the waterpump's job is to move coolant around to maintain cooling and prevent overheating. even if you weren't overheating, you may have had a leak, and its possible, but unlikely the water pump had anything to do with your lack of heat.
lack of heat is usually either low coolant temp, and/or bad thermostat, or clogged up heater core, or heater control malfunction.
either way, while you may have had a bad waterpump, it was very unlikely it had anything to do with no heat. they were just popping you for cash, one piece at a time. they'll get you for about 300-400 on water pump, and then make the big score for about 800 on the heater core.
try backflushing your heater core both ways. that solves a lot of people's problems. just cut the heater hoses out there in a convenient spot, and then splice them back togeether with sleeves and clamps. this will prevent you from possibly breaking off a heater core pipe.

Just a thought about the heat issue. Does the truck run right now? If so, feel both of the heater core hoses while the truck is running. Both should be hot and difficult to touch. And you should not be able to collapse (push the hose together) while its running. If either hose is not hot to the touch or you can collapse the hose, your heater core may be plugged. I just replaced mine this week because the heater barley put out any heat. Just something you might try.
