just to clarify, does the spark knock created by this sound like normal ping or more pronounced? mine sounds kinda like noisy lifters or somethin sometimes, usually after a while of driving, but not constantly...
When my plenum blew the truck would randomly smoke on startup. It wouldn't do it everytime, but once in a while there would be a nice cloud of blue smoke.

The pinging will only occure under load, if you just rev the engine in neutral, it won't ping (if it does, you have way more issues than just a blown plenum). Take a look at this video and crank up the volume at the 3:45 mark. This is what pinging sounds like.

Ya mine only pings under acceleration but I thought it sounded worse than ping, when my idler pulley seized a fw weeks ago, I thought that might have been what I was hearing (bearings piling up) but after replacing it I still have the knocking.

I would love to hear it in yer video but you seem to have forgotten to include one....

200,000+, never changed that I know of.
Been wanting to tear the manifold off just for kicks, probably do that early spring and see a little of whats going on in the innards of the motor.

i havent changed mine yet at 196,xxx mi, i checked the other day, and yeah im pretty sure it needs to be done, its pretty nasty looking, and im getting really really crappy mileage i used to always get about 14in the city, now i barely get 10mpg so im hoping that the plenum is the culprit.

i did my buddies plenum last year and he had 288,xxx on his at the time, didnt look like it had been changed before.
