I think if you check the faq for diy on the back brake mod thier were a few posts about mods and upgrades to the front calipers and rotors, I think that's were I saw it.

There is a DIY on how to put 1 ton brake shoes in our 1/2 ton drums, makes a big difference I hear, it is on my list, and it only costs around 26 dollars.

You already have dual piston calipers on your 01 vs my single piston caliper on my 97. I know on pre 98s you can put on 2500 calipers and rotors which are beefier and also provide better braking. I am not sure if you can do the same for a post 98 but maybe someone can chime in with that answer.

Also, check out SSBC brakes, they offer a nice disc brake conversion kit for the rear axle, or...you can find a wrecked gen 3, and take the axle off of it along with the master cylinder and brake components and you got rear discs.

I upgraded to Brembo slotted rotors and Akebono cermaic pads, and it made a very nice difference in braking performance. Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads are also said to be a good combo. I'd like to find a caliper kit though, but haven't really seen anything.

yeah i think im gonna have to piece together a kit, it stops alright as it sits now but could be alot better. on hot days if i have to brake hard the front is so over worked the rear drums will lock up and the *** end will just slide to a stop. if its hot enough dont even have to brake hard at times to slide, and if its a fresh rain Lol.
edit: that was with the boggers though havent drove it enough yet with the nittos.

Well, since you have a 2001 model, you cant change out the rear wheel cylinders to 1 tons, because you already have them.

Maybe get some smaller tires? 37'' tires on a 1/2 ton is just an accident waiting to happen.

I have Baer Decelarotors, Raybestos Advanced Tech. Ceramic brake pads, and Russell stainless steel braided front brake hoses, and the truck stops really good, even with my 7,000 pound camper on the back. Although, if I was going to do it again, I'd just get some slotted rotors from EBC.

Ya, hard brake lines help too. I haven't installed mine yet.
