165,000+ on an 01' 4x4QC 5.9 and it uses about a quart between oil changes. I don't believe it is burning it since the exhaust looks fairly clean an dry. I do have valve cover leaks so I believe it is seeping out there. I change my oil every 7000 so if I add a quart between oil changes it is not so bad.

i check my oil once a week, or once every other week, and i checked it about 900 miles ago and its was pretty much to the max line...

My plenum is obvously not leaking..i looked inside, and since my intake is ported and polished its easy to tell...well the inside is still pure silver...the hughes plate was actually shining when the light hit it...

Valve cover gaskets i replaced 5K ago...i retorqued on my last oil change 2600 miles ago...theres no wetnesss or any leaks here...

Oil pan is completely dry all the way around so thats not it.

Oil filter is dry all the way arond, so thats not it.

and the oil dipstick isnt leaking where it enters the block...

so is it typical for these to burn oil when your near due for an oil change?

i used Quaker full synthetic truck and SUV 10w30 with a mopar filter.
A truck with almost 200,000 miles is going to burn a little oil over 3,000 miles. It is totally normal due to normal wear and tear. Valve guides are a little worn, and so are the piston rings. Its really nothing to worry about, your truck could probably go another 100,000 miles before you would need to re-build the short block. Just keep oil in it.

1 qt. between changes is very minimal for any vehicle with 75000 miles or more.Instead of adding a qt. just change it. There........just saved you $3.00 on an oil change!!!

Are you sure it's not coming from the back of the keg. Take a photo. The oil I use is $17 for 5 qts.and was $12 when I started using it in 2003.

If it has the API seal on the bottle it's all good, if you change it often.I
