Plenum Replacement Disaster!

Default Plenum Replacement Disaster!

Well I did it! Replaced the plenum gasket, along with new hoses, new oil sending unit....etc. Fired right up everything looking good, waiting for coolant to warm up and start flowing. Noticed the exhaust was very noticable, really fogging outh back end. Went to check my oil guage again.....BOTTOMED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Turned the truck off and heard noise in the passenger side valves.
The only thing I can think of, One of the intake gaskets shifted when I dropped the intake in! Oh, there was NO oil on the dipstick, filled it back up and it was milky. Any ideas?

My guess is that some coolant sneaked in there. change the oil again and see if it happens again. if it does, then you either didn't torque the bolts down in the proper sequence and foot pounds. or your head gaskets shot. I still think some coolant sneaked in there from the cool passage where the head meets with the intake.

I added 3 quartsof oil, and restarted it, oil guage came back up for about 40 seconds and then bottomed out again.

damn. that's bad luck.
sounds like intake gasket is messed up. you got coolant in the oil, coolant in the intake, and oil disappearing.

you've got to take it back apart....


tip for next time on setting the intake. take 4 long intake size bolts and cut the heads off. screw them in lightly at the corners. drop intake over them. start the others, remove the line-ups.

I didn't say to add oil. I'm saying to CHANGE THE OIL. As far as the oil pressure, well it could be that it's not on tight and the sensor got loose. Also make sure the harness is on snug.

i think he's saying that its sucking the oil out of it, and there is no oil.

My money is on a blown/shifted head gasket. That's how you get the milkshake consistency...

Why would he have a blown head gasket after a plenum change. Change the oil, and try it again. What could have happened is that gasket material fell down into the oil, and clogged up the pick up tube. I was worried about that. Cleaned it out with Diesel

Thats not the ONLY way. If he just took out his kegger, then chances are some coolant got into the engine while he was taking the kegger out.

Hey hound dog, did you take out all the coolant before you removed your kegger?
