Exclamation HELP Odometer reset itself

I have a problem and was wondering if anyone knew how to resolve it. i have a 99 ram 1500 5.2L 2wd with 98672.0 miles. So i took out my battery to start another car and when i put the battery back in my truck and started the it up the odometer read 905.0 miles and its not the trip odometer! Why did it reset itself? how can i get my mileage back? Any help would greatly appreciated! Thanks

If it's truly the odometer that has reset, then rejoice. You just did something that I'm sure 90% of us on this forum would like to do to our own trucks. The only thing is, it might be a prelude to a PCM issue. Not sure on that, but it would make me wonder a little bit.

If your odometer truly reset itself, your computer is on its way out.

Definitely double check that it is the odometer that switched. If it did switch... that is awesome from my standpoint, but probably not for you. The interesting thing is in my truck (an 01), the pcm does not control your mileage. It does record the mileage but it is not responsible for displaying the mileage on the odometer. You can prove this by (with the battery out) removing the three pcm plugs and reconnecting your battery. It will show the mileage (because it is stored in the cluster) and after a little bit it will display "no bus" because it isn't hooked to the computer. I would venture that your 99 is the same way as mine so it wouldn't be a bad test to perform just for ****s and giggles. Either way, it sounds like it is a cluster issue and you may have to go to the dealership on this one. They might be able to hook the DRB III up to it and reprogram the correct mileage (which they can reference from the pcm).

Push the little black button and see if it changes.
