Default Aged Tires, a Driving Hazard (MUST WATCH!)

This an ABC 20/20 Video that I found over on a Toyota 4Runner forum:
http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=4826897

I went out and checked the Goodyears I bought a year ago, and they were all made in 2007. Unfortunatley, my original Goodyear Wrangler RT/S spare was dated in mid 1998! And even the tire I bought a year ago for the S-10 was dated in 2003 and was already worn out and dry-rotted. When the time comes for new tires on the PurplDodge, I will be purchasing 5 tires and a 5th wheel that matches some Off-Road wheels. This way I can rotate them in a special way and get more life out of the tires.

Mind you, the tire (on my S-10) was bought in 2008! So, if you (or anybody you love or care about) are getting new tires for your truck, make sure to go and check the dates on them. If they are old enough, refuse to have them put on your truck!

Excellent post purpl. It's definitely very dangerous - never realized that they sat quite that long though..

Good video.

Thank's Purple good find,I put new tires on my truck about 6 months ago and I had to run outside and check the date after that video, they where made in 09 so I'm cool.
I picked up my truck today from getting hood and roof painted, looks great, raining right now so I'll try to get pictures up tomorrow.

i had a tire blow out on my dumptruck at 45mph once, luckly it was on the inside of my rear, which is a duel, and i was unloaded, it made a very loud boom and kinda pulled me into the middle of the road. very scary situation on a 10 ton monster

And to think manufacturers have known this for years. Be sure you don't help things out buy putting any alcohol based products on yer sidewalls. Haven't had a vehicle tire blow yet, but had a trailer tire blow this summer, fully loaded, thought I lost the serpentine belt. Talk about a sudden power robber.

That reminds me, I will also need 5 new tires for the camper! I'll just go down to my Goodyear dealer and place an order for 15 tires!!!

if my tires are infact old on my fiancees maxima can i sue? they have it on their computers what milage it had when they were bought. we have put less than 200 miles on the new tires.

i worked in a tire shop before doing all tires from bike tires to dump truck tires to tires that are 8 feet tall 300lbs (skidder tires), and i never knew this
