i loved how they explained the electrical stuff on 4x4 today...and on horsepower, i cant believe they only got that amount of gain with the SC on the camero...was stock at 335 hp, and the SC made it 448 HP...thats not a big gain IMO for the price of those things...

and on the NV4500 they had a similar issue with the jam nut in fifth gear. looks like the 48RE and NV4500 are prone to it.

See that the thing about SBC's iv noticed for whatever reason they'er always really powerful stock, then you add bolt on performance and it doesnt really do any thing for the engine. I guess you cant get any better than perfect, i honestly think the 350 is the best engine GM has ever put out.

the killer dowel pin is located behind the front cover, if it works out, it can **** your motor over at worst, at best it can leave you with a nasty oil leak, it was only a problem in the 12 valve motors from what i remember (both first and second gen 12 valves) 24 and common rail trucks are fine

113 Hp is a HUGE increase. There aren't to many things that beat them for Hp pe dollar on an already performance motor.

well it was SC, and was tuned. If someone went out and bought that it would have cost 6-7K. and 113HP is not worth it. for 6-7K i would beef up the motor, so i know it can withstand punishment.

bump

i have a 01 1500 4x4 with the 5.2 and am intrested in getting my mileage up too. I have been following the extreme 4x4 build. Seems like the biggest MPG gain was with the locking hubs (seems obvious) but they also put in the 1 ton axles too correct?

from what i remember this was the mod list:

MT wheels and tires
Positive Axle Engagement System from 4x4 posi-Lock
plugs
wires
cap/rotor
16" Electric Fan from summit
axles
took all the crap out ( weight reduction)
Front SpynTec Roller Bearing Conversion Kit For Dodge from Solid Axle Industries

with these mods then went from 8 to 16mpg. I think with my 100% stock ram, right now im about 14mpg, If I did the e fan and Roller bearings up front I could get into the upper teens and maybe even low 20s.

They also changed to 4.10 gears b/c of the oversized tires. If you don't want to change to 3/4 or 1 ton axles this link will convert you 1/2 ton axles.
