back on topic - is that yoke cast iron ? it looks like it, but how is it attached to the axle which is steel ?

the welded pics also look like its not welded solid, are there cracks still in it ?

and the original pics look like its had the tee-total **** beat out of it.

the original question - whats the worst that can happen ? it'll break at 70 mph and the moving parts will beat the **** out of everything. it sort of looks like that already happened. i don't think the wheel can fall off as the bearing has the stub shaft clamped into the knuckle, right (or wrong) ?
They're not cracks, I took off excess slag with a flap disk from an angle grinder, not pretty but works, and it's not permanent, just a weld to hold untill I can get ahold of a new axle shaft.

And there's still the 3 bolts holding the hub on, the spindle nut and tie rod. Hopefully it will last a week.

Why would you torch weld that? To weld cast Iron, you have to go through a variety of heating, and cooling procedures. I KNOW he didn't do that. It's not as simple as grabbing a different rod or wire. Just replace the damn part. Would you rather be out $$ or your life when that halfass repair fails?

Too bad he cant get a new part right now. Yeah, he may not have done the repair the right way, but it is only temporary. Havent you been out in hte desert and something fails, and you do a temporary repair to get you home? I thought you would understand that part better.

Temporary repairs have a way of becoming not so temporary. And yes, yes I have. I would never drive home from the desert on something that sketch. That's what tow trucks are for.

Yeah, I'll either halfway fix it now, and get a new part when I get home, or pay $80 for a tow truck.
