Default 1998 Dodge Ram, clunk sound when stopping

I had a 1998 Dodge Ram that was a pretty solid truck save for one odd bit of behavior. When coming to a stop, I would often hear a clunk sound coming from what I assume to have been the rear end.

I took it to the dealer and got the, "it's normal," response. I ended up trading the truck in so it became a moot point. But as I am about to buy a new one, I was wondering if this was a known issue for that era truck or maybe mine had a problem the dealer couldn't diagnose. The truck had less than 50,000 miles while this was happening.

Thanks.

I did not trade it in because of the clunk . . .

I bought the truck new in 1998 and could not afford the extended cab model. In 2000 my Nasdaq account skyrocketed along with a few million other people. So I decided to buy a new truck. As much as I loved my RAM, I didn't want to essentially buy the same truck but with the larger cab so I bought an F-150. Had that one five years and then moved to a Frontier.

I want to go back to a full size truck and the RAM is a top choice.

not really. the 9.26 in the back is pretty solid, not common to blow up.

Just trying to see if it was a serious issue or not. It did have the 3.92 limited slip.

I'll search so as to be in good graces with the masses.
