Default Good Plow Size

Hello,

Well I am looking to throw a plow on my 1995 dodge ram 2500 5.9 gas unit, whar would be the best size? I was thinking a 9 footer, but what do you guys run? (if you have a plow)

8.5 boss ploy v. 9ft is getting BIG. My buddy had a 2500 5.9 and runs a 7.5 which is small. But he don't use it much and got it for free from his old man.

if it was a 1500 id say shoot for the 6 foot range..cause those tend to do well..thats what the previous owners had on mine..and ive used my truck with a 6.5 plow and it worked great..but we only do drive ways and such..wind rolling isnt really needed..

being that you have a 2500 id say 7.5 would be great depending on what your doing..

what do you plan to use this plow for? like parking lots, your drive way etc

Hoping to get into commercial plowing next season. Since I already have access to everything minus a plow I'll be running a minute mount or MM2.

7.5 is small for commercial, I was thinking 8.5 or 9.

Quote from my friend who plows in an F-250: "After a while, your truck starts to make strange, horrible noises and you just start feeling really, really bad for it." he plows about 8 accounts.

i never read anything about commercial plowing

i think 8.5 would be good..with a minute mount good up..those work nice..

anything bigger than 8.5 is trouble really cause i dont know about where you live but out here if your blade cant fit in between your own lane..you get pulled over and ticketed..stupid illinois laws

sides..6 inches on each side aint gonna save you to much if your talking doing lots and such..

personally id say 8.5 maxx

EDIT: agreed with the above post..plows are so hard on pickups..especially half tons..i know you have a 2500 but still..they kill pickups..but its your truck i assure you..my truck seen a plow from for 10-12 years..and was well taken care of and but it still dont matter

i will never put a plow on a pickup truck

Yeah not sure over here my work we have a 9' and a 10' on our trucks, now those are big. Prolly go with an 8.5 find a nice used one offseason and rebuild it won't be hard.

If i where you check out plowsite.com.. they have a lot of great info there.
and they have a section for dodge rams trucks.

DO NOT RUN A POLY PLOW... many people think that poly weighs less than a steel and this is not true!! another good site is centralparts.com they have some good prices and info as well

i would recommend running a meyer 8' lot pro http://www.meyerproducts.com/plows/lotpro.aspx

and add on the wing extenders to get a wider cut without the extra weight
http://www.meyerproducts.com/plows/lotpro.aspx#Plow

a 9' would be a little heavy imo...
