trans help guys
ok.. got to use my 4WD today for the first time sense the lift, digs great...
now for the trans... it runs first gear all day long, reverse all day long, 4hi, 4lo, 2wd, dont matter.. goes great...
but wont shift to second.. the second i put it in 2 spot on the colume shift, it bogg way down and doesnt shift, out it in drive ( this is all at like 40 mph) and it will litterely lock the rears up.. in 4wd, it just tops the truck...
someone told me it was the 2nd- 3rd clutch pcks are stuck... the trans is trin to shift into second, and hitting both 2nd and third... locking it up,,
as soon as i either come to a stop or ptu it back in to 1 on the shifter, it runns great again...

That plate should be held down with a snap right in a groove if I remember correctly. That is the low/reverse band servo.
Also there are no 2nd or third clutch packs just a a front and back. Do you have a shift kit in the trans?

With help you might be able to push that plate down and put the snap ring back on. I cant remenber how strong the spring on that servo. A transmission shop should be able to get you the ring.
The shift kit may have the plug in it that makes the tranny hold or down shift to second at any speed when the selector is put in 2.
That broken ring may also be the problem. It looks like the spring and plate are pushing on the arm and holding the low/reverse band on partially.
Let me get this correct when in 3rd and downshifting to second it locks up the wheels and when you put the truck in 2nd at a dead stop it has no power? Or is it you can't get past second at all?
Also not feeling the shift kit doesn't mean much. I have mine almost to full race shifts and with normal driving I barely notice them.

ok, got it on the shift kit.. ok, visual picture for you in your head...
get in your truck.. put the gear selector in 1... truck goes fine, transfer case in 2 or 4... as soon as i pull the gear selector up to 2, while moving, the truck feels like the brakes are locking up as it was trying to shift, but cant... if that helps...
does the same thing if i just put the truck in drive, hit the gas, 1st is fine, as soon as it trys to shift, it has the " lock up the brakes" feel to it...
im pretty sure this is the problem, that plate thing isnt in right, and its stopping it from shiftng..

Is the ring whole? Was the tranny recently rebuilt? The ring may have not have been installed correctly and it just popped out. If you think it did and it is whole you could reinstall it.

well.. it makes about a 3/4 circle.. just like a snap ring.. hang on and ill take a pic of it too... jsut to make sure..

Yeah thats looks like it and it looks good. The plate on top of the spring should push down into the servo bore and that snap ring will pop into a groove to hold it in there. When I built my tranny I think I had a friend push the plate down while I put the snap ring in its groove.
