I'm looking for new meats for my baby and have settled on a couple choices. Was leaning towards the BFG A/Ts, but at $1,100+ in the size I want, no deal. After reading some here and elsewhere I looked at the General Grabber AT2s and they compare very favorably to the BFGs and are much cheaper. I was convinced to go with these until the nice people at Tire Pros offered me the Nitto Terra Grappler A/Ts at a better price. reading some of the web reviews they are a bit mixed. Most love the Nittos, but some complain of premature wear. I still have useable tread on my current tires, but they suck in the rain. I want something with good road manners, low noise and good wet handling. Of course, I needed to see what my DF peeps have to say. Here's the deals in LT295/75R16 size:

4 Nitto Grappler A/T are $803 OTD

4 General Grabber AT2 are $943 OTD

Both are load range D tires and just over 33" tall, but the Generals are rated at 640 tread wear index and the Nittos only 500 (higher is better). The tread design on the Generals is a lot like the BFG A/Ts, the Nittos look a little tamer. I don't mind paying a little more for a better tire, but I also don't like paying more for nothing. How good are the Nittos? Anyone have any experience with either brand/model? Your comments always appreciated.

 

I love my BFG's so I would say go with the grabbers. With tire prices on the rise you don't want to have to buy another set soon, so I'd go with the grabbers since they will last you longer. Ever think of the toyo open country a/t? I've heard great things about them.

ive found great deals on 285/75/16's (about 550 for all 4 shipped, Medalist Mud Kings)
try these sites, ive been shopping for a couple months now, and these two sites are the cheapest ive found.

 

I myself would go for the Generals. Even though they are a little more, they look better and have better feedback than the Nittos.

Have you looked at Dick Cepek/Mickey Thompson? Ask hammer on those. They are a meaty tire that wear exceptionally well.

Ya can't say I'd hate seeing a v10 destroy an old set of tires.

 

i dunno how you feel about retreads but i got some from treadwright.com over the summer. i know several people here are using them and there are several reviews, some dont like the idea of a retread but i havent ehard of any issues, so far 6months in and no issues. come with a 2 yr warranty, and paid half of what i would ahve for new bfg at 285/75/16



and yes need a video of lighting up the old tires!

 

Rick, not to make your decision any harder. But, give Kumho's a good once over. I ran their Road Venture A/T's on my old 99 2500. With normal rotation I got over 60k out of them. and that was with towing a 28' enclosed trailer 2-3 times a week. My 2500 was a 5.9 not a V10, but I highly recomend those tires.
