Then he is driving more. You said he gets double the gas mileage of you yet diesel is not double the price of gas. Not to mention he probably actually has some power unlike the underpowered 360's. I wish I had a diesel instead of this 360.

That makes ZERO sense... He gets 100% (2x) mileage than you, yet diesel is only 10% higher in price??? He must drive a lot more than you... Also, a good lift pump is only $120 (Holey Blue or Carter 4601).

That being said, VP44 (24 valve) trucks do NOT make more power than 12 valve trucks... The VP44 can get better mileage though. Also, older trucks run just fine on ULSD; you lose about 10% mileage over the older stuff though (personal experience). I do however recommend running fuel treatment like Power Services since it makes sure there`s enough lubricants in the fuel (sulfer acted as a lubricant for the injection system) and adds cetane rating to the fuel to get back some of the lost mileage.

Go with a 94-98.5 12 valve... Very little electronics (none for the engine, only for the auto transmission), cheap to get decent power (can get up to 300rwhp/700ft-lbs FREE with pump tweaks depending on year/transmission) and they are more tollerant to bio-fuels.

I love my 94 RCLB 2500 2wd CTD, I just put down 422/903 with about $2k invested in the engine/trans and I still get 24mpg combined city/hwy empty and 18mpg towing 12k...

why do you all assume i have a 360? we both fill up when we are on half, and we both drive the same distance every day, its about 10 outside right now and he doesnt plug his truck in, so warm up time, his truck weighs about 1000lbs more than mine, and its a dually so more rotaing mass, dont get me wrong I personally want a 03-04 cummins but i have a need for one, i currently have an oldsmobile on a trailer on the back of my truck now waiting to go to dayton ohio (about 45min away) and every weekend in the summer i have a drag race car on the back of it, i just cant see spending all that money on something that someone drives like a car (short trips, alot of stop and go, hardly any towing) i see it around here all the time and it usually ends up as sellig the truck for a ranger or a dakota in the end, like the post way back the guy is only going to tow a car trailer an a camper a few times a year so if your not getting the benifit out of excellent highway mpgs whats the point of getting one?

the 94-98.5 12v are awsome engines and will burn just about anything for fuel, i run a lot of waste oils right in my tank, the nv4500 does have the problem with the nut backing off but doesnt hurt anything if it does and can be fixed very easy, the 6.7 has good power but crapy mpg's but there are chips availible to remove the emmission stuff and get the mpg's back likr the 5.9

The 318's don't do much better in the gas mileage nor power department. So it doesn't really matter which one you have.
