Temp goes to 195 then drops to like 160??
what brand radiator did you go with.. mine has a hard time heating up.. as in i have never had a truck that i could get it hot in their. not like my car... on the other hand it does get comfy but thats about it..... i also have a newer rad in mine from a 2001. and have factory tow package...
If that is correct then I would advise you to look at your heater control valveshould be able to find it by tracing your heater hose from your water pump to the fire wall... if I'm not mistaken the heater control valve is vaccuum operated which means it has a diaphram which may be leaking air and thus not allowing full flow of engine coolant to circulate through your heater core... also another suspect would be the heater core itself if it is plugged up at all that too will cause subpar heating ability.
as i said before thats where my guage sits all the time... She'll turn you into Thanksgiving dinner if you leave the heat on full blast! I can not leave my temperature selector **** any where past the middle of the scale! she gets really hot if i turn her any where into the red zone! if you are having problems with your heater not working properly its probably going to be either the heater control valve or the heater core itself... I'd hesitate to say get another radiator... however if you do decide to get one Modine is the brand you'd want other than getting one from dodge themselves... check the heater control valve and heater core first though would be my suggestion before replacing any parts!
