Default 4x4 shifter conversion

Can I convert the 4wd shift from a 98+ ram to my 96 ram?

Just so everyone knows the old shift pattern is 2-4H-N-NL and the newer one is 4L-N-2-4H. I really don't know how difficult a conversion would be.

+1 Gerehead8 i was gonna say the same thing then also the 98+ shifter moves back in forth in a straight motion and the 96 to 98 goes down and then to the right to hit N.

Is it the same t-case? I think it would be, maybe just a different linkage?

It should be just make sure u get one from a truck with the same as your's. I know they made 2 or 3 different ones. But if yours is a 231HD make sure the 98+ is the same ya know.

Well I dont want to replace my t-case just to change the shifter. I was just wondering if anyone knew if I could just change the linkage.
