Default Over Drive?

I just wanted some opinions, the over drive off option on the end of the auto shifter when do you use it?

I wonder is it only used when hauling?
Or when ever your not on the highway over 55mph?

I have never had this option on any auto that I have owned in the past. The truck is a 5.9L 1500 with auto.

When i use it, it make the truck stay in GOOOOO mode!! When its off it keeps it idled down and I assume that helps the mileage.

I don't mind the mileage my other car is a Jeep 2.5 L with 33s which equals no power or mileage... Least i get the power now!!!

welcome to the club! I ALWAYS turn my od off when I'm driving, up to about 80-90 KM\h, it keeps the rpms in the 2000-2500 range. It's nice to have a little power on tap when ya want it eh? And it sounds better with a nice opened up exhaust!

I think a lot of us here do the same thing, I had a thread about it a few weeks ago

Yep what he said, keep it off till your well up to speed on the highway. your tranny may live longer ifit isn't always trying to shift into overdrive when not needed.

I try to keep the Overdrive OFF under 55 MPH and I always take it out when towing any load, from a snowblower to my camper. That damn Overdrive bog just annoys the hell out of me!

That is funny, because i am the complete opposite. For example, when i leave school the speed limit on the road is 45. My truck shifts into overdrive somewhere between 45 and 50, so I intentionally break the speed limit and accelerate up to 50 to get my truck into overdrive. I'm just hoping that i can save that little bit of gas. I have been lucky so far, because everyone i know speeds on that road and has gotten a ticket, but not me .

so i have always been confused about this. is OD off when the light is lit up on the dash of when there is nothing on the dash? me and my dad had this discussion but whenever i push the OD button my RPM shoot up way high. i only push the button when i am going up a steep hill so the rpm and speed stay steady at 45-50mph. otherwise when i drive on the interstate at 70mph, i don' push the button which means on the interstate the OD is not lit on the dash.

I dont turn overdrive off until I am towing I average 55-60mph on regular driving so its not beneficial to turn it off everyonce in awhile when it gets cold I will turn it off to help warm up the engine.
