Default 99 ram little power until 3k rpm

My 99 ram that i just bought seems to have little power until it gets over 3k rpms. It has the 318 magnum in it. I was wondering is this normal for the engine and can i improve it with power programmer like a superchips? Thanks

Welcome to DF, now i wont say it's normal but i wont say it's not normal. Mine does the same thing and i have a blown plenum gasket just like more than half of the other guys on here, just run a search for "Blown plenum gasket" in the search feature of the forum and it will give you thread apon thread about it and you can compair your symptom's against some of ours and decide for your self.

Yes plenums probably blown.

Also it may have taken effect to the catalytic converter. It may be getting clogged, and when the rpms are that high theres alot of pressure so its able to get through the clogged cat...maybe?

A power programmer would help if you have the "death flash" on your truck. Thats dodge's bandaid for the leaking intake manifold belly pan (plenum leak). More likely than not you have the death flash. The tuner will get rid of it, but the plenum still needs to be fixed with a new gasket or better yet, a Hugh's plenum repair kit.

Thanks guys. The truck also has a skip every now and then when idleing, not constant or anything just comes and goes. After i installed the flowmaster super44 and the cold air intake i seem to notice the skip more in the morning when its really cold.
