how many amps are u getting for $140? i just like to shop around and considering u just spent cash on repairs as is, but checking the price on getting a rebuild isn't always out of the question espically if u have a local shop that has a good rep

Shop around, I got mine for $90 from a hole in the wall outfit, just as good as a name brand store.
Just make sure you get the right one, they have different amperages, and they will all bolt up, more or less, and have the same connections.
I'm guessing you'd need the highest output, which is around 120 amps, if I recall correctly - 3 were used, 90, 110 and 120.
Side by side you can barely tell the difference, and the parts store can't tell which one you need.
Good way to tell what your output currently is is to check the ALT fuse.
Make sure the pulleys are an exact match too, if they aren't you'll need to swap em before you turn in the core.

I dunno if mine the 110 amp or not. All I kno is that it was the largest one that dodge put on. The shop only had 2 options. So im guessing the 90 amp and 110. But thats only a guess.

I looked into getting mine rebuilt, not much savings off of just getting a new one.
Didn't look into doing it myself as I needed the truck back on the road by the next day.
True about the PCM completely forgot. Generic description.

I'm guessing no.
Though even side by side its hard to tell the difference, there is a physical difference.
The higher output ALTs are heftier, I suppose to accommodate the extra internal windings they need to put out more voltage.
The shop should be able to tell you what you need to know, if you go over the stock amperage you may have to make further mods as well to prevent damage to your system [that wasn't intended for the higher amperage].
I'd stay with stock unless you have a compelling reason not to.

The shop that u spoke of should be able to tell u if it can be upgraded, as far as up grading the stock alternator i wouldn't unless ur running more options like extra lights, sound systems etc. the rule of thumb ive gone buy is more options more power used, per more load on the electrical system. and yes ive been sick all week it sux
