98 46re into a 97 1500
Ok ill try this question one more time. I need to know if a 98 46re is a direct bolt in into a 97 1500 or not, and if it isnt, what needs to be changed?
Now for the story as to why i need to know.
My original tranny burnt itsself out. Got a used 97 46re from a salvage yard, and had a shop put it in. Well it runs perfect in 1-3 but when in OD it makes some weird noises and and the shop said the OD is going out. So the salvage yard warrants the tranny for 30 days(it started making noise within 2 days of getting it) and will exchange the tranny(but wont refund the labor charge of putting the first one in or the second, ohwell). Only problem is they dont have any 97s left, but they do have 98s, so thats why i will not be rebuilding/buying a different 97. Now PLEASE answer my question, the faster you tell me the quicker i can have my truck back.

are they from the same motors? i believe that since you have a 5.9, and if you put a 5.2 tranny in it, there was something minor that needed to be changed. I could be wrong
but yes they will bolt up
but yes they will bolt up
yes both are 360s, i know they will bolt "up" i need to know if i need different sensors and what not, some ppl say the higher year 46res have different electronics, i dono if the 98s do or not
No one knows the exact details between the two trannies. Do what 95ram360 suggested. The only difference would be sensors and cooler line fittings. Take pics of the sensors you have and compare them to the sensors on the 98. The cooler line fittings can be adapted. Just so you know the cooler lines use JIC fittings, most auto shops carry them but they just don't know it (at least by me). I had to argue with multiple store workers to get them.
