Question about rear ends
I'm thinking about going with some 37" tires on my dually dana 80 with 373 rear gear now my question is because it's a dana 80 does that make it different or is a gear ratio a gear ratio or will i be safe with 373 sorry if this is confusing lol

Now I may be wrong on this but I think a ratio is a ratio. Dana 80 only means that its parts are larger. I think. As far as ratio's go I see where a 4.10 would be optimal maybe even a 4.56. But don't quote me on that. This is only what I heard. Im sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

You don't want 3.73s unless you have stock-ish sized tires. Didn't even know they made that gearing for our trucks, figured the next step up from 3.55 was 3.92, but I suppose that may only be for the 1500 axles, which are smaller than yours.
You want at least 4.10s, IMO, otherwise those big tires will wear out that tranny and your MPGs will suffer even worse. Like others said, 4.56s may even be more up your alley.
