Has anyone ever double stacked a set of rear leaf springs?
yes, i did that on my old chevy. i didn't really know what i was doing, but i double stacked the 2 or 3 longest springs into my existing pack. it lifted the rear about 3 or 4 inches and hauled the world without sagging. i used a 5/16 bolt for a center pin and made some retainer clips to hold the pack together. i got the extra spring packs and u-bolts at the junk yard for next to nothing, maybe $10, i don't even remember.
the only problem was it rode like a mother****er when unloaded and didn't have enough brakes to stop it when loaded. other than that, the springs held up fine.
having done that ^, i recommend a set of timbren rubber springs for extra load. i've got them on the dodge. last weekend i stacked wood in tight and rounded it all the way up and drove like it wasn't there. very very little sag.

I have a 1998 2500 4x4. I have a extra set of leafs from another truck. They are identical to the ones I have on mine right now. I know about the longer u-bolts and the spring clamps. But has anyone else done this? I know it's going to ride rougher, I just want more height and be able to carry more weight. I don't want to buy just helper springs since I already have this set. I only paid $50 for the set. Any thoughts? pro's/con's?
if you choose to do it, remember to rebuild the spring pack with all of the accompanying parts, new center pin, and bushings. I wouldnt go more than 2 leafs though.
I did once on a 98' Silverado z71. I doubled all springs aside from the main load spring. I went to husky spring and bought isolators and all the spacers and shims necessary. It gave me 9" of lift which was nice. The truck looked stock height with 150 80# bags of concrete (8,000#). In the back, and drove like a Cadillac. However, I blew the pump out of the transmission a month later. About a month after having it rebuilt I failed to see the correlation and shattered the sun gear.
