Default Bad fan clutch?

Is it normal to have the wobble with a little forward/reverse pushing? It isn't much at all and the clutch has decent tension.
I popped my belt off to see if I could find my noisy bearing and I noticed the slight wobble in the fan with a little pushing.

I wouldn't think that is normal. I'm going to check mine.

only one way to find out. rap a nice thick towel around your hand/arm.. then try to stop the fan when the motor is running... seriously

if you CAN stop the fan, then its bad..

EDIT: remember theres gonna be tension on the fan clutch (hard to spin). the only purpose for it is to "slip" when the engine is spinning. otherwise, if it didnt slip, you would have a super loud roaring under the hood. and if it didnt spin at all, obviously you wouldnt cool the engine down enough.

Default I just had mine replaced about an hour ago....

I work at a school and the bus mechanic swapped it out for me for 20bucks. He said it had "play" in it and it was as close to being locked up as any he had seen. That would explain why I could barely turn the fan by hand, so even if it isn't a major issue now with the "play" in it, it might cause it to be a problem like I had.

I don't understand the procedure, would you care to come demonstrate it for me?

If It didn't spin at all then I would think that it would over-cool the engine.

Default You are correct sheriff

It did overcool the engine and my heat sucked. I bet it wasn't getting much over 130.

***edit** It also was SUPER LOUD! I sounded like an airplane trying to take off!

if the FAN didnt spin at all, then you wouldnt get any air flow in the engine bay (hence over-heating the engine)
