I prefer Dexron III with black bottle lube gaurd... So do many of the other guys that build performance transmissions for the diesel crowd. My 47RH has 70k HARD miles on it since I rebuilt it; towing 20k gross, constantly thrashing the truck when empty, putting down 422/903 on the dyno...

As for synthetic in the engine, yeah it works great on a gas application where you`re not dealing with **** loads of soot that you don`t want collecting in your crankcase. Even the aftermarket turbo gurus don`t like synthetic in diesel appliactions. Just my .02

I used DEXRON III in my 46RH and it went 368k before a small part failed in it. The CTD thing I'm learning.I'm still lurking in our CTD section. PO's hubby said, Rotella is what it had in it, so that's what I used. I checked out the other site. They all said their oil color was the same way.

Yeah, without a good bypass filter your oil will be as black as the stuff you drained within 30 seconds... I wouldn`t worry about it, it`s a diesel thing. The only thing you have to watch for with the Common Rail trucks is an injector tip blowing up and washing down a cylinder. A good way to catch it early is to check your oil often to make sure it isn`t 1) "making oil" or 2) that it doesn`t smell like diesel fuel... Diesel and bearings mix about as good as coolant and bearings

It's still under warranty. I keep a close check on everything on my vehicles anyway. My Dad, and Granpa taught me that many years ago.I look at my tires everytime I get in and out of my truck.I keep up with the Wife, and Son's rides also. The guys on the other site said, a bypass filter wouldn't help the oil color. Said the soot matter is less than 1 micron on these engines.

This is true, I forget that the particulate matter in the CR engines is a lot smaller than my ancient 12 valve lol. Either way, a good bypass will filter down to at least 2 microns and it`s kind of a peace of mind item, at least for me anyway...
