no you dont, the alternator takes like 15 minutes to take out....take off belt by pulling forward on the tensioner (towards drivers side), electrical connectors, the 4 small nuts on the back holding the connector, and the 2 bolts that hold the alternator on.....Do you hve a haynes or Chilton repair manual? if not id recommend getting one........Alternator is a very straight forward job, and doesnt require taking off other items....except maybe a bracket, but i cant remember right now...

tighten the 15mm bolt in the center of the tensioners pulley and the tensioner will move enough to slip the belt off the alternator pulley.

Yep. I just popped mine off yesterday to listen to all of the pulleys with the stethoscope, it was so cold that the belt kept its shape after I took it off.

If your replacing the alternator make sure you get the right one. I got a new one and it didn't have a plug in the back like my old one had and I had to send it back. Also make sure it's got the same amps as your old one.

I upgraded from the 117 amp to the 136 amp and only had to change the end on the wire running to the power dist. box. The post is larger on the 136 amp.

STEP 1 of anything electrical - disconnect negative battery cable, or you run the risk of pcm damage. its not worth the risk.
