Question noise from middle of dash

Hey guys....Hoping one of you either have had this same problem or can give me your insite. I have a 98 ram 5.9 quad cab sport. I've noticed when I drive down the road I have no noise. When I romp on the motor or accelerating hard I have a noise it seems from the middle of the dash. I can't isolate it. Sounds almost like something is int he defroster area. Sound is hard to describe but sounds almost like jingle of keys or a piece of metal with keys on it. It only does the sound while driving. If i put into park and rev to redline no noise....I don't know...totally stumped....but it is annoying the hell out of me.....Normally I just have the radio up, but that ofcourse isn't a solution. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for the help guys!

That would be your engine pinging. try a different fuel mixture and it might clear it up

Because it will only do it under acceleration.

Thanks Yak! Any suggestions to reduce this or fix? I've heard seafoam helps? Your thoughts?

Eh seafoam is good to clean out the system every now and then, i would consider just using a bottle of 108 octane booster every other tank of gas, which can be picked up at any part's store.

Also you could consider looking into the Plenum gasket issue we have with our truck, if you havent already had it fixed then you're going to want to look into it.

Use our search feature at the top of the page and type in Plenum gasket and see what you get for results.

i used seafoam, and its ok, not the best product, and it doesntclean the TB of oil build up.

The Plenum can cause pinging, Upgrade to 92 octane, and put some octane booster in it, that should take care of pinging, but its only hiding the problem, If you own a 94-2001 RAM, you need to do your plenum, theres no way around, your not going to be the lucky one, it will blow out. Get the hughes kit (use a search and you'll find answers)

Yak,

Thanks for the help. I filled up at Sunoco with 93 octane and the noise magically disappeared! I didn't think it was pinging as the only time that it did it was when I would romp on it and I assumed pinging was a cosistant "ping" lol....never assumed the rattle might actually be that. Thanks again everyone for the help. Just goes to prove why this forum kicks ***!

Thanks!

I put autolite 3923 sparkplugs in mine and was able to use 87 octane.
