Attention dodge forum
Interesting that you mention this. One of the things that got me in hot water with the DF Gods was my habit of editing/rewriting thread titles for just this reason. I think it serves little purpose to have obscure thread titles like this. Not only does it force members to click on the thread to see what it is about (very selfish IMO), but the thread is basically useless in a search. For a technical forum where there is a lot of archived information readily available, this is inexcusable.

We were all newbies once. I already PMed him a personal welcome, with a note attached letting him know about generic titles in the future.
Now, if he were a seasoned member of DF with hundreds of posts, you're right. Its inexcusable. Or if he did this repeatedly, again you're correct. However, he's not, and he hasn't.
BTW, this is a bit of a hijack. No more thread title talk in this thread please.

What I was referring to as inexcusable was the idea of leaving the thread title alone, not the poster's action. We want ALL members to use the search feature, but we do nothing to make it work better, which ends up making it useless and gives members, new and old, an excuse not to use it. I don't see why there's anything wrong with changing the title to something more search friendly and telling the poster the reason why the title was changed. Same with fixing misspellings in thread titles. Ultimately, the betterment of the forum is the motivation and people shouldn't be so quick to get their feelings hurt over it.
