Attention dodge forum
I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 with four wheel ABS brakes. My question is about the front wheel bearings. How do you determine a left from a right side bearing? (listing two part numbers has something to do wheel sensor)
Thanks for reading.
Thanks for reading.
you have to get under your truck and look to see which side your abs sensor is on then compare to the new ones and make sure they go in the same way, otherwise the wire will be on the wrong side when you get it all back together
There's only two part numbers for most 2500 models: one without ABS and one with ABS. The one with ABS will have a cable coming out of it. Both have 4 bolt flanges. There were some V8 2500 models with Dana 44 front axles (like yours). These use the same 3 bolt flange bearings as the 1500s. They are also ABS and non ABS models. There are no left and right, they fit either side.

Why did Dodge do a lot of the stupid things they did on these trucks? Mine isn't to question why, but to right the wrong and steer the misguided. Wait...that was my old job.
Same reason Ford made a light duty F-250 with a F-150 body and 7-lug wheels from 1997-1999: Because there are idiots out there that bought them!

I will respectfully disagree with Miami here.
They did not put Dana 44s on Ram 2500s after the 1995 model year. From what I have gathered, all 1996-2001 Dodge Ram 2500s had the Dana 60 front axle. Only 1994-1995 model year 2500s had an option for a Dana 44.

All of the big three did this for years. Most pre 90's 3/4 tons had the dana 44 big bearing or 8-lug from the factory. The dana 60 was an option on the 3/4 tons. They usually had a heavier rear axle though. Dodges often got the 9.25 8-lug axle which has a few differences from the 1/2 ton 5-lug version.
Yep, I will agree with this. The OP has an HD truck with the Dana 60 in it.
