Don't do the 180. I had one in mine, and it ran badly. Wasted gas, lost power.

Look around on here and you'll find that lots with the 180 and no PCM tunes have similar problems. That's because the computer won't change the Air/Fuel mix, since it doesn't pay attention to the oxygen sensors until the engine is at 180 degrees. That's a pretty close cut. Plus, each thermostat says it's + or - 10 degrees; add in cold weather, and your truck is running extra rich because the computer thinks the engine isn't warm enough.

I think mine has had that problem since the 180 install. It works much better in hot weather I believe.

Need a 185 or 90 if they made one.

Same here I am getting awful fuel economy and I am getting a code for engine too cold for to long. I thought that the computer went to closed loop much sooner though, more like 150 degrees or something. I can't find the exact temp in my service manual though.

I think the factory one is 195 degrees.

The factory one I took out said 192 on it. I remember thinking that was very strange. Just goes to show, you can't believe everything you read on here. A couple years ago, the 180 was the big craze. Just tried it while doing the waterpump, for the hell of it. I'll change it back this fall, if I still have the truck.

The big reason for the 180 is that the motor runs cooler so you can advance the timing more without causing pinging. Thats why they get used with tuners so often. In a week or two I am putting a new radiator in and when I do I will swap back to a stock thermostat. I will post if I notice anything.

When I put MegaSquirt on I will run the 180 so I can increase timing.
