Default Transmission pump - First thread

I recently purchased a 1995 1500 2X4 SLT. It had been sitting for several months and has 205K miles on it. It drove fine home and a little around town. I was backing out of a driveway and put it in D and the engine rev'd but the truck would not move. 2 or 1 would not work as well. Eventually it did start catching a little and I was able to make it home. I noticed when I was checking the transmission fluid level that after sitting a few minutes in neutral you would hear a semi-loud buzzing sound coming from the trans.

I pulled the transmission pan and replaced the filter which was clogged beyond all belief. Filled it back up and it drove fine for another 20 miles or so. Then the problem and the buzzing resumed.

I think I have the buzzing narrowed down to the transmission pump and the filter getting clogged again. But I wanted to check with you guys first and see if anybody has experienced this before I pull the pan down again.

I didn't notice any clutch plate residue in the pan. I called around to find out how much for a transmission flush and most shops want about 200 to do it. I only paid 250 for the truck so I don't want to sink a whole lot into it and cannot afford a new transmission.

Any help and advice is appreciated. Thanks

That's clutch material. The transmission is shot, don't waste any money on it.

I was really hoping it wasn't because it ran fine and shifted great for a little while after I changed the filter

Try your luck at a junkyard. you can pick one up for $200 or less (I forget what my price sheet says since im currently 150 miles away from it at the moment. Just drop the pan before you buy to get an idea of the condition. Thats what I would do if I picked up a truck for 250.

Where are you from? I'll give you your money back... JK, it's toast, but it's not that hard to rebuild them if you have access to a press and pick up an ATSG manual. A Trans-Go TFOD-HD2 shift kit is a good idea too

I was thinking about the junk yard, what do you think the odds are of me getting another shot one would be?

And I would love to rebuild it unfortunately I don't have a garage and the kids would be pissed eating off it in the kitchen LOL

thanks for all the input everyone

Find a good shop to do the rebuild $1200-$1500 for a good rebuild is a fair price. An honest tranny guy might find a cheaper fix after he tears it down.

You will have to get a 46RH from a 2wd. They only came in 94-95 2nd gen trucks. I am not sure if you can get one out a 1st gen or not. What motor is in your truck? The torque converter must be weighted if it a 360.

You can't use a 4wd tranny because the tailhousings do not swap. Only the entire OD unit and will swap and yours will be full of friction material that will destroy the new tranny.
