looking at rams
Pros: The engines are durable and are built to last.
They are the best looking trucks period!
Cons: The transmissions are about as durable as a piece of aluminum foil.
However, they can last awhile once you learn how to finess them a bit.
Even with some of it's problems, I love my truck. There is something about the Dodge Rams that make them a blast to drive.

Welcome to DF.
I traded in my 1995 Dakota 4x4 SLT with the 318ci 5.2L V8 for my current Ram, and I wouldn't go back. Despite the Ram being 1500 lbs (or more) heavier, mine has more get up and go than the Dakota did, even before I upgraded her.
The Dakota got 12-13 MPG in town (ish) with oversized A/T tires and 3.55 gears, the Ram (with the bigger 5.9L V8) gets 10-12 MPG in town with oversized A/T tires and 3.55 gears. Closer to 12 in the summer, but closer to 10 in the winter.
I'm upgrading to 3.92 gears here in the next week or two, and we'll see if that helps with MPGs in addition to get-up-and-go. My advice: look for an Off-Road edition Ram that hasn't been beat on (Off Road editions come with 4.10 gears), or look for a regular Ram that has the 3.92 gears. You'll thank yourself later for the higher gearing.
