Confused..
Hey all.. glad to be part of the forums here
however i have a problem that i just cant figure out.. it all started when i changed spark plug wires. i changed them all one by one and when i was done i started my truck up and it sounded terrible. i thought i crossed wires so i made the mistake of removing them all and reinstallin em. that didnt work out so well as then i really had a misfire.. i had no time to fix it though as i was at someone elses house and had to get home. so i ran the truck home with a misfire. i ended up crossing the 1&2 plugs and fixed that the next day. the truck seemed to run fine for a few days.. but i noticed it was losing power as i was drivin it.. and it eventually got so bad that it wouldnt rev past 2600rpms and it wouldnt go any faster than 40mph.. i replaced the cap, rotor and coil thinking that was the problem. it wasnt. i had also read about similar problems that the spark plug wiring needs to be routed the exact way as shown or it will do what its doing now. so i routed the plug wires correctly and i thought i fixed the problem until i took it for a test drive.. it is still doing the same thing.
basically long story short.. my truck sounds like crap, will not rev past 2600rpms and will not go faster than 40mph.. does anyone have a clue as to whats going on? sorry if my post seems so long and confusing.. if you have any questions please ask.. i plan on posting a video tomorow to show you exactly whats going on.. and thanks for all the help you can give me

Sounds like the misfires put it into "limp home" mode. This is designed to prevent further damage in the event of some system failure. Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, turn the kye on/off 3 times, turn the headlights on, reconnect the battery and see if that cures it. Should clear your ECM and reset it.
Welcome to DF, but more descriptive thread titles are better.

thanks. yeah sorry still gettin used to things..
but anyways i have tried disconnectin the battery already.. i had it disconnected for 24 hours.. but when i started it up it did the same thing again.. i didnt however turn the key off/on 3 times or turn the headlights on.. would that make a difference?

Possibly, as there could be a capacitive charge in the electrical system. Turning the key on/off and the headlights helps to ensure it is discharged totally. Won't hurt to try.
You might have fauled out the new plugs, also double check and make sure you got the wires seated correctly on the destrib cap. Sometimes they'er a bitch to get on.
Also could have a bad cat and the misfiring on the way home might have put it over the edge, pull your O2 sensor thats right before your cat and see if your engine levels out.

you can reset the pcm a lot faster by disconnecting neg battery cable and turning on headlights for 30 sec.
if you had some plug wires crossed for awhile, you might have pumped enough fuel into the cat to either foul up the 02 or clog the cat.
a simple diagnostic is to temporarily remove the front 02 sensor to relieve some pressure and see if the truck runs any better and revs any higher. if it does, it confirms a cat problem.
how does the truck run at idle ? pretty good or like crap ? a simple diagnostic is to remove one plug wire at a time at idle. each removal should cause a big skip. if any wire doesn't affect it, then it tells you that cyl was not firing right.

it runs great at idle.. its when you put it under load that it runs like crap.. when i ran it 2 days ago i noticed the cat was glowing red.. im guessing its not suppose to be doing that?
ill post the video link up as soon as it uploads.

glowing cat means all the hot exhaust is trying to get out... but cant, so the heat just build up... dont runb that ruck much longer until you get that hign opend up cause you will crack stuff in the heads if ran like that for to long
