how do you change a transfer case?

i looked but couldnt find a thread on this.... is their a diy for it? thanks

I think you unbolt it, then bolt another on.

i've not seen a diy on t-case swap, neither here nor on pavementsucks. check out on the jeep sites, pirate 4x4, offroad, etc forums. the ram is the same design as the jeep.

The top bolts on the transfer case can be a challenge. You need to lower the tranny down as much as you can then you may still have to use a stubby wrench on the bolt to get enough clearance to get them to turn.

They are actually a stud with a nut.(not bolts) Sometimes the whole stud/nut will come out as one. But yes, as Sungod said, the top ones can be a pain with out the right tools.

I didn't have any trouble with the top two nuts, I just used a socket wrench and a swivel attachment.

I think I read somewhere that you don't have to remove the crossmember to get the transfer case out, but I'm not sure on that one.
Since you're taking it off anyway, it wouldn't hurt to change the two seals in the DIY.

awsome.. bolts shouldnt be no problem.. i just had tranny changed rebuilt so bolts and drive shaft should come out easy....
