Default 46RE Transmission Starts in 3rd

Hello all. Here to add to 46RE transmission issues. I just purchased a 2001 Ram 1500 sport with 140k and has what is claimed to be a rebuilt tranny. In purchasing I test drove it, took it for diagnostics,, result: Great running sharp truck! So I drive home and aproxamately 80 miles down the road, MIL comes on. Lost power and when taking off was real slow on pick-up. So code reads Govenor pressure 3psi over when request is zero. i then found that i was geting no voltage to the selenoid in tranny. took it to a shop - he kept it for 3 weeks - found tranny starting in 3rd gear, replaced selenoid, inspected internal of tranny - new fluid and filter - pcm swap - inspect wiring - replace TPS - wiring harness and fuse block swap - Flash PCM. SAME ISSUE! The funny thing is, if you disconnect the PCM for 20 minutes, the truck starts in first and shifts just fine for maybe another 80 miles, then starts acting up again. thats the reason we beleived it would possibly be a PCM issue but even with a swap and flash we get the same issue. This is really frustrating me and I would appreciate any suggestions PLEASE!

Sounds like a definite PCM issue, I would see if they can reflash it again and see where that gets ya. Also just a heads up, if you have anymore issues with the solenoid. You can replace the crappy Chrysler one with a stock GM solenoid and it will fix the weird *** shifting that the 46RE has.

PCM flash was the last step they took and they ripped me $250 for that so dont wana go through that again - they flased it with the update 14 which ive found is the latest so should really be good there. with the shift selenoid, the selenoid is good - just not getting the proper voltage to it - im trying to figure out what supplies the voltage - ive been told once that its the PCM, another time it was the TPS - Ive also seen it mentioned that the o2 sensor is on the same circuit and the o2 sensor could be causing all this? im removing it to se if it changes anything

well i disconnected the o2 sensor and is working properly - going to replace it and go out of town for the weekend and see how she runs - almost seems like now it starts out in first when i first start it but wont kick down to first until ive stopped for 30 seconds but still slow on pickup - TV cable looks good - anyone think adjusting the TV cable will help? if so what adjustment should I try?

If I'm not mistaken, it kind of sounds like a bad cat.

would a bad cat cause the transmission to start in 3rd gear instead of 1st? ive never heard of it but i do know that it could cause loss of power. I do know for sure that it starts in 3rd gear tho - i can manually shift to the 1-2 gear and works just fine - just starts out in 3rd gear - got to my destination and still have same issue BTW - MIL came back on with 3psi when request at zero
