BFG backorder, need tire recommendation
Ill never run a raid to rescue any hostages with these tires as you can hear them quite well. I am lucky enough to live just a few miles from work so I can build my truck for play. After a few weeks the slight tire buzz no longer was noticable. I was immune. In fact since here in germany if you hit a biker ( pedal bike ) you goto hell. The laws are insane. And they seem to think they can pull out in front of a 6000 pound truck. I enjoy the fact that they snap back out of there trance and look at me coming when they hear the tires. Im so set on the baja claws as long as they dont start singing demonic songs as i drive to work Ill never own any others. Heres why.. It rains bunches in northern germany and the roads flood with water where the wheels track in the road. With the street tires that came with my last truck I started Hydroplaning ( spelling ) like crazy over 40-50 mph. When I swapped and put the baja claws on the truck I noticed something funny. It seems that when water is removed from your tread of the tires it rushs at a super high speed in between the tread lugs and finds its way out the edges of the tire. Now im no tire designer but from what I get is that every turn the water makes or every twist it makes to get out of the tread pattern you get some resistance of the water pushing on the tire. The resistance builds up since there is limit to how much water your tire can remove from the road the water will eventualy win and your tire will start to lose contact with the road. Thus your surfing now on top of the water. Not fun.. I almost hit a gaurd rail with my young son in the car a few years back on a dark night. Anyhow. Now lets talk about what I found with the baja claws. In my under powered v-6 ranger I couldnt go fast enough to hydroplane. And I tried under controled tests. I hit the same areas with my truck and with the tread pattern of the mickeys it was like a speed boat hiting a wake. It CUT through them with a nice sounding BURRRR. The V shaped tread pattern is the bomb for moving water. Now I guess if I hit the autobahn at 100mph plus I could float them. But I noticed a HUGE improvement in water removal on my way to work. I even went so far as to drive off the road when nobody was around and hit 1 foot deep long puddles that went for 100-200 feet. The only thing that happpend is the truck felt like a speed brake was tossed out but I NEVER lost contact with the road. I know Im ranting but I truely am hooked on these wonderful tires because although Im now 34 when nobody is looking I look for things to run over. Like dirt fields and hills in construction areas. These tires have never let me down with there 8 layer design. I used to laugh every now and then when I pulled a nail out of them only to find it didnt have the ***** to punch through all 8 layers and give me a flat... Oh another funny fact. I found when I took corners and dropped a a rear tire on the dirt shoulder I could throw a insane amount of dirt in a rooster tail. Good for tailgaters or your buddy on the trail. Anyhow thus ends my rant. good day

If you are looking for an excellent daily driver tire that will work well off road occaisionally your best bet would be to try the Pro Comp All Terrains. They run around the same price as a BFG but will impress you completely with there excellent handling.
BF's suck had a pair and will never go back. They slide in the rain, and turn to slicks in mud. I got stuck in some wet grass with those tires. I picked up a set of 35 in. Mudd King XT (steel belted)at the local co-op and love them. Tread wear is great, liitle noise, clean very well. Have yet to get stuck in the grass lol. The price is good too $130 a piece installed. NIce aggressive tread pattern.

I have the Cooper Discoverer A/T's on my Ram in 285/75r16 and I love them. I've got about 18,000 miles on them and they are showing almost no wear at all. They grip awesome, and do great in snow. For a daily driver I don't think you can get anything better. This is my 2nd set, had the identical tires on my '90 Chevy and loved them on that too. And they're MUCH less expensive than the BFG's.

Yes, I looked at those, but they only make 1 size for a 17 inch rim, and it it too small.
I really like their Cooper Discoverer S/T tire. But for my application, the closest sizes I can get are 275/70/17 (which is only load range C) and 33x12.50r17 (I think it might be too wide).

I haven't heard a lot of good things about the BFG AT's I have heard they are decent on the road but suck in mud or when the roads are wet and don't last much longer than the MT's. The BFG MT's on the other hand I have heard great things about everyone says they last very long for a mud tire on the road and do decent in the mud. If you really want an AT tire I would check out Bridgestone Dualers I have heard good things about them. My grandfather has them on his trooper and they seem to do fairly well. I have only tested them in snow and light mud though. Wait I think we did take it through some deep long mud puddles but I wasn't driving but we didn't have any problems. I think the guy driving did put it in 4wd though. I haven't had to borrow his since I got the Ram but the Duelers were pretty good when I used them. I have a friend that also has Kelly Safari AT tires on his S-10 ZR2 and I think he likes them. If I was going for an AT tire that would probably be what i got. I think these are the ones he has http://www.tireadvantage.com/tiredet...TOKEN=94584781
