1500 to 3500 Conversion
I have a 99 1500 4x4 long bed. I know it sounds crazy but I'm looking to convert it to a 3500 suspension wise so it can handle the weight of heavy loads when I tow. I plan on adapting a sling system to the bed to tow/ repo however my baby is only a 1500. Money is tight to buy a 3500 and the truck is in perfect mechanical condition. I have a 5.9L block and 4x4. Can anyone point me in the right direction!!!!!!

I've been repoing for about 6 years and my ghetto rig has nothing to do w/ Operation repo! Every single one of you has done a ghetto rig! Obviously you morons I know it's not a 3500 what I want is feed back how to ghetto rig it! Money is very tight and I own a repo company in Miami & Orlando FL but we have to get another truck on the road and cant spend another $61K for a 08 + 3500 w/ a Dynamic 701! You all have done ghetto rigs and that's what these forums are for to share feed back! FYI Operation repo is all B.S. and anyone who actually reposesses knows everything they doin the show is a "Breach of Peace" and most of the time under state law would be considered "Assault & Battery" even snatching the keys from your hands! So if you don't have any feedback that involves call me/ us stupid please keep them to your selves! I will post the pic off a 1500 we saw in Orlando w/ the setup so you can all shut the hell up!

Go buy an older 3500 or a rolled one and swap frames. The 3500 frame is much stronger then a 1500, has larger coils and 3" leaves, has a Dana 60 front (4x4), NP241 T-case, Dana 80 dually rear, with a dually box among a ton of other things. By the time you changed the stuff over it would have been significantly cheaper to buy an older 3500. I am sure people have put slings in 1500's and for towing econoboxes away it probably does the trick but it is stressing the truck.
Honestly, wanting to getto rig a tow truck sounds like a good way to get people injured or killed. I understand the need but it is safer and more than likely cheaper to go buy an older 3500 and build that up.

This is a 96 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ a 3.9L that adapted an illusions sling system. This is too ghetto since it's a 3.9 but they adapted 3500 springs to the rear! The way this guy did it was way to unsafe for me and it does not look like i will handle when driving down the road! I pay almost 4K a month for 4 08 3500 & 4500's which are literally always working but I need to get one more on the road for at least 6 months to a year when I pay one of them off to buy another 3500! So yes it can be done!!!!!
